It is believed to be a poem composed by Sappho, though the identity of the author is divined solely by contextual clues and the specifics of the dialect and poetic meter, that being elegiac. It was found at Oxyrhynchus several centuries ago carved into a potsherd. Its veracity has been debated for some time, but the private collector who has come into its ownership most recently only wants a new translation and does not care to authenticate its origins.
Those who are self taught often have a greater and more focused passion than those who are not, Mr. Drake, not to mention greater discipline. It is not a point of weakness, but one of differing and valuable perspective.
