{ general info }

[ NAME ] Nathan (Nate) Drake
[ PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION ] Mr. Fanservice. 39 y.o. 6'1", tan, brown hair and blue eyes. Very physically fit from a lifetime of climbing mountains and buildings, scarred from a lifetime of falling off of said mountains and buildings (also, scarred from multiple bullet grazings). Rarely clean-shaven, crooked smiles abound.
[ SOUND ] American, no distinctive regional accent. Traveled a lot as a kid and picked up fluency in other languages. Voiced by Nolan North.
[ DEMEANOR ] Genuinely easygoing, non-threatening, engaging, firm in his opinions and a little arrogant about his knowledge of history. Self-identifies as a smartass. Somehow manages to be the luckiest motherfucker alive for everything he recklessly gets into, but retains an intense, childlike curiosity about new discoveries. Massive adrenaline junkie. Anti-hero do-gooder in the extreme, frequently flouting the law
[ ABILITIES ] Professional thief and treasure hunter who has been in and out of various prisons more times than you can shake a stick at. Mad parkour skills, rock climbing skills, and a bare-knuckle brawler with a fair handle on an extensive variety of firearms. Career criminal with a history of impulsive pick-pocketing - a brief flirtation with stage magic in his youth lends itself well to his excellent sleight-of-hand. Has inscrutably good luck, to a nigh-unbelievable extent.
Nate's greatest talents are taking a beating and his inability to keep from making terrible puns at inopportune times. Fluent in Spanish, Latin, and Morse Code with a fair knowledge of Tibetan, Indonesian, Greek, Enochian and Mongolian script. Passing familiarity in Portuguese and Italian. Otherwise, a totally normal human being who happens to be really good at drawing and keeping notes, as he carries a sketchbook with him everywhere. More than anything Nate is an adaptable but regular guy, quick to evolve to drastic changes in situations as they occur.

PERSONALITY: Nate is a career criminal who only recently went on the straight and narrow. He's a talented liar to anyone who doesn't know him well enough, is impatient unless a historical interest is in question and is insecure about what constitutes as "normality." He can be cavalier about his knowledge of history, overwhelmed with the excitement that his work brings him, and it manifests as incredulous arrogance. Stubborn but not prone to arguing, he will change his position on something if provided with a valid reason for doing so. Nate refers to himself as "adaptable," which goes hand in hand with his thrill-seeking and the dangers inherent.
Careless with regards to his personal safety Nate is something of an adrenaline junkie, deriving delight from dangerous circumstances no matter how life-threatening. He also doesn't consider himself a cold-blooded killer in spite of the body count he's racked up, treating such occasions as "it's him or me" scenarios. Accustomed to improvisation he also tends to be reactionary and flexible in those situations, rather than choosing to stick to a concrete plan. Reckless behavior is a gentle way of describing his default that has persisted well into adulthood, and Nate has the prison record to suggest as much. This – and his time in the orphanage – ties into a dislike of authority figures or those who demand respect but give none in return, and Nate is chock-full of sarcastic quips or one-liners for anyone he identifies as an incompetent bully.
When absorbed in the intricate minutiae of a job he can become short-sighted and neglectful, caught up in the fire that only discovery can stoke. With all pistons firing Nate is an unstoppable force of creative problem-solving, leaping to impossible conclusions that have left friends rolling their eyes in frustration for his "Beautiful Mind shit". This tendency to become easily distracted, however, has screwed him in the past. Nate is trusting of his professional partners and has thereby been easily manipulated into lending his expertise, skill, and know-how in return for Brutus' knife in his back.
Nate's foremost fear is ending up alone. This deep-seated anxiety is reflected in his decision-making process, selfishly leading to an overprotectiveness of loved ones not for their sakes, but for his own. Frightened of losing people he tends to overstep, and in an almost contradictory fashion has a habit of pushing them away in the process or orchestrating his own failures as a self-fulfilling prophecy. His abandonment issues summarily become an ouroboros of internalized guilt, wherein he blames himself for things going wrong because he believes he is the one to blame (even when he's not).
Consequently, Nate has the looks of Action Guy No. 4 without coming across as a hyper-masculine stereotype: for all his emotional parkour conveying his feelings, he is open and honest with those he cares about. However, while he feels very strongly, he has a poor concept of how to express those emotions in a healthy, constructive way.
Also, he's terrified of clowns.
SUITABILITY: Extremely suitable, not to put too fine a point on it. Nate thrives in dangerous environments and risky scenarios with high stakes. He spent two years in Hadriel, which was effectively a post-apocalyptic world, on top of his wealth of experience in treasure hunting with volatile and violent competition. In addition, he's incredibly curious and adventurous, which makes this new world excessively interesting to him. Seeking out its various secrets will be a priority for him after settling in.
ABILITIES/SKILLS: Professional thief and treasure hunter with an annoyingly intimate knowledge of historical minutiae and the esoteric. A career criminal, Nate is preternaturally skilled at running
away from his problems, rock (and building) climbing, scuba diving, picking fights, and not dying in spite of the multitude of dangerous scenarios in which he finds himself. Can fly a plane, can also survive falling out of a plane. He has inscrutably good luck, to a nigh-unbelievable extent,1 and a brief flirtation with stage magic in his youth lends itself well to his excellent sleight-of-hand, useful for picking the pockets of unsuspecting marks. Nate's experience in various illegal doings also lends him some minor mechanical engineering skills, mostly with regards to hot-wiring vehicles and disarming alarm systems. While not a professional getaway driver, he has exceptional vehicle handling and quick reflexes.Highly talented with firearms and back-alley brawling Nate's greatest talents are fighting dirty, taking a beating, and his inability to keep from making terrible puns at inopportune times. Fluent in Spanish, Latin, and Morse Code with a fair knowledge of Tibetan, Indonesian, Greek, Enochian and Mongolian script. Otherwise, a totally normal guy who happens to be really good at drawing and keeping notes. More than anything Nate is an adaptable but regular human, quick to evolve to drastic changes in situations as they happen.
1 It was suggested by Uncharted developers that his "health bar/meter" is actually his "luck," and that Nate tends to wander through firefights and bullets just miss him until he pushes it too far. Ol' Nathan "Human Cockroach" Drake.
In Hadriel, Nate spent approximately six months training with Taako Taaco the wizard, learning magical skills, spells and cantrips. He is effectively a Level 1 Wizard, which should terrify anyone and everyone in proximity.
